Sun Conures (Aratinga solstitalis Linne)
The Sun Conures originate from South America around Venezuela, Brazil and the Amazon regions. The adults have yellow plumage with orange on their foreheads, sides of their heads and lower parts. Under their tail, the color is tinged with yellow and green, parts of their wings have blue, green and yellow. The baby Suns will be mostly green until approximately 10 months then they turn predominately yellow with some green. They're very sociable birds and like to imitate sounds like the 'microwave', 'telephone' etc. They can talk but only in their 'squeaky-like voice'.
Sun Conures have been known to lay on their backs with their feet in the air -- scaring any bird owner half out of their wits thinking that bird has dropped dead at the bottom of the cage. They can be clowns, quite active, playful and very affectionate with their owners.
