Red-bellied Parrot - (Poicephalus rufiventris)

POICEPHALUS Family:   These are also a great choice for those who want to have mid-size parrot, especially if it's a first family parrot.  Generally, they are animated, clown-type of birds that learn to talk and learn tricks.  Head, back and wings greyish-brown; variably washed with orange on cheeks and breast; lower back yellowish-green tinged with blue; lower breast, abdomen and under wing-coverts orange; under tail-coverts and thighs bluish-green; periphthalmic ring black; bill black; iris red; feet grey. Female as male, except under wing-coverts grey; breast and abdomen green.  Either both sexes resemble young male with much duller orange coloring and feathers with pale green edging, forehead with marked orange, iris dark and adult plumage attained at 12 months or the female has green abdomen immediately. These birds are also on the Endangered Species list, and they're typically from Central Ethiopia, south to Pangani district and north-eastern Tanzania.
